Much work and effort has been put into maintaining the centuries old beauty of the original chambers but with all the requirements of the 21st century. Once again, M & C Joinery were tasked with the wonderous and dedicated work of refurbishing and refitting the chamber as only they know how. The counter tops were made using veneered white beech – which is an unusual wood, known for its fine, even grain and light colour, which typically ranges from pale cream to light brown.
Everything was done to ensure that every part replaced was in keeping with the plank-form design that was part of the original.
The counter tops were replaced to original detail – bearing in mind that the 21st century had many more requirements that those of the 18th. M & C Joinery used the latest technical and precision aspects of their CNC machines in order to router and mould the white beech pieces that were required. The lacquers used on the finish are the most environmentally friendly that can be found today.
Sometimes it is not obvious what is required but M & C Joinery have a great eye for the finest detail and the finished pieces had to be able to accommodate built-in electronics that was provided and installed by SKS Communications who have enjoyed working with M & C joinery on previous occasions on other such productions e.g. the chambers in Naas County Council (see more here). These media electronics incorporate an Infra-Red system for the provision of simultaneous interpretation and an induction loop to provide accessibility for the hearing impaired. This great working rapport is a testament to captains and crew of both M & C Joinery and SKS Communications who all went the extra mile to ensure that deadlines were kept and quality ensured.
Hats off too, to the City Hall staff, who also put their hearts and souls into the project to ensure it ran as smoothly as possible.
Now if that isn’t a Chamber of the Heart…
